Learn English with an ESOL tutor in Purley

The 70/30 rule is a teaching principle where students speak 70% of the time and listen 30%.

Why this matters for language learning:

• Active practice builds fluency: verbal practice strengthens neural pathways for spontaneous speech
• Mistakes become learning moments: instant guidance prevents fossilised mistakes
• Confidence grows through use: the more you talk, the more natural English feels

In a traditional classroom, teachers often talk 70% of the time. Private ESOL tutoring lets you flip that balance and maximise your speaking time.

A good ESOL tutor creates activities that keep you talking: role-plays, discussions, and real-life scenarios.

Private ESOL tuition in Purley averages £14/h per session.

This rate can vary depending on several factors:

• The student's proficiency (beginner, intermediate, or advanced)
• Your tutor's background (CELTA, DELTA, teaching certificates)
• How often you study (weekly sessions, intensive courses)
• The format (online, face-to-face at home, or at the tutor's location)

Many tutors offer discounted packages if you book multiple sessions upfront. Choosing online tuition often saves money without sacrificing results. A free trial lesson is common, so you can check compatibility before committing.

ESOL stands for English for Speakers of Other Languages. It describes courses designed for adults whose first language is not English.

Private ESOL lessons work on four essential language areas:

• Reading comprehension: decoding texts for daily life, work, and study
• Writing: composing clear sentences, emails, and forms
• Listening: processing spoken language in natural settings
• Speaking: expressing ideas confidently in everyday situations

ESOL differs from standard English lessons because it prioritises real-life UK contexts.

With a score of 5⭐ out of 5, ESOL teachers in Purley receive excellent feedback.
