The first skills to learn on guitar are tuning, basic chords, and simple strumming patterns.

• Tuning means adjusting each string to the correct pitch, usually E-A-D-G-B-E from low to high.
• Mastering open chords gives you a solid foundation for rhythm playing.
• A metronome helps you develop steady timing from the very beginning.

Practice chord transitions slowly at first, then build speed as your fingers remember the shapes.

The average price for a guitar lesson in Aberystwyth is around £25/h.

This rate can vary depending on several factors:

• Your current ability (complete novice through to experienced player)
• The tutor's qualifications and experience (grades, degrees, professional work)
• How long and how often you book (half-hour, full hour, one-off or regular)
• How you take your lessons (via video call, face-to-face, or at a music school)

Booking a package of lessons often brings the hourly rate down. A first session at no charge is common, letting you test the teaching style.

The 80/20 rule suggests that 20% of your practice delivers 80% of your results.

• Core chords like G, C, D, E, and A appear in the majority of popular songs.
• Many famous riffs use just five notes from this versatile scale.
• Drummers and singers rely on guitarists who keep steady time.

The 80/20 mindset cuts through information overload and keeps your practice efficient.
