The fundamentals of rugby revolve around several key rules that shape every match.

• The forward pass rule: players cannot throw the ball forwards to a teammate, only laterally or backwards. It defines how teams advance up the field.
• The tackle and ruck: after a tackle, the ball-carrier releases the ball and players bind together to win it back. This is the heart of rugby's contact phase.
• Scoring options: points come from tries, conversions, penalty kicks and drop goals. Recognising when to attempt each one is part of the strategy.
• Set pieces: set pieces like scrums and lineouts are organised contests for possession that every team practises regularly.

Understanding these foundations makes the rest of the sport far more approachable, especially with personalised guidance from a private rugby tutor.

Rugby coaches in Edith Weston typically charge £30/h per hour.

This rate varies depending on several factors:

• Player level: the standard you play at, from grassroots to academy level, affects the focus of each lesson.
• Coach experience: the instructor's credentials and track record on the pitch are reflected in their hourly fee.
• Session structure: the number of hours booked in advance often unlocks a better rate.
• Lesson format: where the sessions take place, at a club ground, park or your school, also influences cost.

Most coaches offer a free trial lesson so you can test their style before committing.

Getting better at rugby comes down to consistent practice across a few key areas.

• Master the core skills: drill the basics until they become second nature, since matches rarely give you time to think. Quality reps matter more than quantity.
• Build rugby-specific fitness: conditioning sessions should match the stop-start nature of rugby, blending high-intensity efforts with recovery.
• Study positional play and tactics: learning the game's structure, from set pieces to phase play, turns physical effort into effective rugby.
• Get expert feedback: personalised coaching turns generic training into focused improvement that translates directly to match day.

Consistency and good coaching remain the keys to lasting progress on the pitch.
