About Alex
I am a 2nd year medical student with 5 years of tutoring experience. I achieved a distinction in my 1st year at the University of Edinburgh. I achieved all A*s at A level (biology, chemistry, maths) and GCSE, including 99% overall mark in my chemistry A level. I achieved offers from all the medical schools I applied to and achieved a top 1% in the UCAT for my year (3240 band 1). In my years of tutoring, I have done 11+ (including interview prep), GCSE sciences and maths, UCAT and medical school interview preparation. I have done both online and in-person tutoring, learning how to make sure both ensure a value for money. Over the years, I have done plenty of tutoring for children with learning difficulties like dyscalculia and ADHD, including on a voluntary basis. Through this I learnt how to develop specific study methods which work for individuals. I have also worked in group settings for a tutoring company tutoring 6-16 year olds at Woodhouse College. I have an up-to-date PVG (Scotland) and DBS certificate which I am happy to provide, alongside personal references from people I have tutored long term over the years.

Hello, in the 2022/23 admissions cycle, I obtained all 4 of my offers to enter medical school from Bristol, Manchester, Nottingham and Edinburgh. I am now a 2nd year medical student in Edinburgh who has seen success in my degree, achieving a distinction in my 1st year (approximately top decile). In the past, I have done UCAT and interview admissions tutoring. I offered voluntary mock interviews to students at a top grammar school. I have also reviewed personal statements for medical school and for related subjects like chemical engineering. When I deliver interview sessions, the focus depends on the student and I tailor to what you want to do. I ensure I do in-depth research on the university’s interview styles and provide comprehensive feedback. I am happy to give line-by-line personal statement feedback. I suggest areas to delve into more, as medical personal statements require a delicate balance between academics and interpersonal skills. I do hour-long sessions for tutoring, giving feedback in-session.
