• When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  I developed an interest in private tutoring during my secondary school years when I started helping friends and other students understand difficult topics, especially in maths, and I enjoyed witnessing their progress.

• Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I mainly teach Leaving Cert and Junior Cert Maths, covering both higher and ordinary levels. I also teach Physics, Applied Maths, Technology and Business Studies. I enjoy problem-solving and helping students find efficient ways to tackle complex questions.

• Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  Yes, one of my secondary school maths teachers had a way of making complicated ideas simple and accessible, and breaking problems down into easy steps, sparking my interest in the subject.

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  Patience, adaptability, and the ability to explain concepts in different ways to match a student's learning style. Encouraging students and making learning enjoyable is also key.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  I once helped a student who was struggling in maths go from failing grades in 5th year, to a H1 in Leaving Cert Maths and Physics. It showed me the impact of good tutoring.

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  Balancing different learning styles and paces can be challenging, as each student absorbs information differently. However, it has made me more flexible in my teaching approach.

• Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  I strive to help students realize their potential and develop confidence in their abilities. Outside of tutoring, I also enjoy going to the gym and playing Gaelic football.
