Want support to write an ace thesis? Need help to plan a research project? Planning your professional accreditation? Need to improve your learning skills?
We start off by focusing on YOU...the student!
We build what I call a "learning alliance", where we agree to work together to support your needs. We contract on where I can support you, and what you must do yourself. I help you discover your motivation, resilience and self-confidence, all crucial ingredients in any study.
Learning requires motivation x methodology.
We focus on the requirement of the program or course. It's vital to ensure that we both have a clear understanding of what is required, by when, clarifying any jargon, hard concepts or ambiguity. We then set your goals, and produce an action plan, based on the reading and preparation needed. We identify where you most need help.
In the classes, I can help explain difficult concepts or methods, role-play Q&A, test your understanding, discuss your approach to projects or thesis writing, suggest alternatives, identify your blind spots, and sign-post you to further resources.
Most of all, I'm your "running partner", there with you through the programme, all the way till the end. This means I also offer companionship, emotional support and encouragement. Learning is hard. We're human, and it's easier if we learn alongside someone else.
As you produce drafts, I can critique these. Sometimes as the "naive critic", otherwise as the "wise owl". I deliver clear, tough and motivational feedback, ensuring the standard is at least as high as your targeted outcomes but also building your confidence and resolve.
We then focus on getting the outcomes you need, either through thesis planning, preparation and production, or exam preparation and revision, and so on. This might also involve oral exams or viva voce. I've also supported students in preparing portfolios of professional work.
Finally, it's important after the formal course of study that we reflect and discuss what's next. This is a chance to reinforce key learning and help you make decisions about the next steps and the extent to which your goals and motivation might have changed during the programme.

Andrew has a wonderful manner when he is in teacher/training mode and you WANT to learn from him. I have had the pleasure of being this situation on a one:one and a group situation and came away each time enlightened and more importantly what he taught stayed with me.
I supervised Andrew through his practitioner doctorate at Middlesex University and was hugely impressed by the innovative work that he did in supporting young entrepreneurs. Andrew has a wide corporate experience gained in many international settings and has vast experience as an executive coach.
This combination of successful engagement at both the 'C' suite level and also the young start up is rare and Andrew negotiates this territory with panache and wisdom.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Andrew as a coach, mentor and academic advisor.
Prof Brian Sutton
Andrew is a great colleague and a great asset to Birkbeck's Centre for Innovation Management Research. His expertise on entrepreneurship theory and practice has been very valuable to the Centre, first as Entrepreneur in Residence where he contributed to the development of the student-led Entrepreneurship Hub, and later as a Fellow of the Centre contributing to our research and knowledge exchange activities. Andrew is a knowledgeable and professional colleague, and a great mentor to students and aspiring entrepreneurs.
Andrew conducted a short workshop with myself and my colleagues on how coaching and mentoring crosses over with the role of teaching. He was well prepared, offered us a lot of additional resources both before and after the workshop and was generous with his time.
Andrew is a knowledgeable and considerate tutor who takes the time to fully understand the needs and aims of his students whether he is interacting with them on a one off basis or building up a relationship over time. I have always found him to be a curious and interested person when it comes to learning about subjects which are not his specialism and has a genuine purpose of helping others.
It is rare to find a tutor who is equally as eager to learn from others as they are for teaching. I cannot recommend Andrew enough.
I have participated in Andrew's online classes and they provide excellent professional and personal development support. They are full of interesting ideas and useful tips. Andrew's teaching benefits from his coaching approach, and he asks lots of good thought-provoking questions and he listens well. I would definitely recommend his classes to anyone looking for advanced professional or academic learning.
