About Jack
My name is Jack, I’m 23 years old, and I’ve practiced the drums almost every day since I was 8, under the tutelage of a number of superb teachers. I am proficient in all genres and styles of modern music, from samba and swing, to pop and progressive metal. I also trained as a classical violinist and pianist from
the age of 4, until I was 16. During this period I also studied music theory and classical percussion. My music teachers taught me passion, joy, confidence, creativity, and discipline, and this is what I strive to impart to my pupils.
I’ve been playing in bands of many genres for many years. Presently, I am working on an instrumental project with an 8-string guitarist. We’re composing an album that combines jazz fusion and progressive metal and employs unconventional harmonies, time signatures, and polyrhythms.

With beginners and with kids, I take the approach of inspiring passion before instilling perfection: I first teach you to love the instrument by showing you the fundamentals and then getting you to play along to your favourite songs. Once imbued with a love for the instrument, I ensure that the student learns the correct posture, and the correct finger, wrist, and foot techniques, so they acquire all the correct habits early on. I will also teach you to read music, incrementally as we go along.
Unlike classical teachers however, I do not foist a set repertoire upon the student. I taylor my teaching to the individual student’s music taste, and teach them the pieces of music they request to learn.
With kids, I strongly encourage independently seeking out and listening to music as much as possible. To become a good drummer, it is essential that you develop a unique and personal music taste, and that you develop a passion for listening to music attentively and critically.
For intermediate and advanced students, I will first ask you to play something for me so I can get a sense of your abilities—it can be a prepared piece, or you can just sit down and shred for a few minutes. From here, there are two possible avenues of pursuit: one, we can work on specific things at your request (swivel technique, septuplet fills, swing playing, etc.); two, I can adjust your technique as needed and start teaching you exciting new musical concepts to enhance your playing. But it’s entirely up to you what we do!
All students, particularly kids, MUST wear ear plugs. If you don’t have any, I can lend you some for the first few lessons. AirPods do not count!

Perfect! Jack is a great tutor - Arthur (10 year old) has loved taking his begginer druming steps with him. Jack uses a well balanced approach of fun plus direction and managed to grab his full attention. Highly recommended
- Arthur is an attentive and polite student. He is patient and is able to attempt tricky things over and over again slowly until he finally masters them—the one essential skill for any aspiring musician. I can’t recommend Jack enough for anyone looking to learn the drums. He understands his students and has so much empathy to adjust his teaching style to what the student needs. He has instilled confidence in my son, and engages him in a way that makes him love the instrument and practice. Jack goes the extra mile for his students. I've been taking lessons with Jack for the better part of the past year. Jack is an incredibly thoughtful tutor and experienced drummer, who has helped me advance from very little playing familiarity to being able to practice on my own with sheet music. He's very patient, but also knows where to push you to become better. Jack will be able to pick up where your strengths/weaknesses are as a musician and will adapt his teaching methods to help you learn in an efficient manner - but most of all, he keeps it FUN. I highly recommend Jack!
Jack has been teaching my 12-year-old son drumming for a year now. He is a very knowledgeable and talented teacher. He listens and responds really well to what my son is interested in musically - helping keep his interest in the lessons whilst introducing new material, techniques and theory.
