About Alan
- What kind of experience do you have?
Over thirty years experience teaching traditional Karate, self defence and close quarter combat techniques in Cambridge colleges and also in the British Army.
Ten years plus working in the print and sign making industry at the forefront of the development of the internet and multi media applications. I have mentored in local colleges students from 13 up to 18 and assisted them in passing their final exams.
In all subjects I am realistic and compassionate and believe in a structured but adaptable approach based on the abilities of my students.

Hi, if you are looking at my page you are either seeking a Self Defence teacher or an I.T./Web design tutor..
Quite a difference I admit, but I have high qualifications with vast experience in both subjects.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Self Defence for Women's groups and organisations, using a sympathetic and realistic approach.
Web design and development with tuition in the use of Dreamweaver. I cover server side and client side scripting languages such as HTML. CSS, PHP, JavaScript, AJAX, JQuery, MySQL (database design and optimisation) also SEO and web marketing.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
AMA EKC reg Black Belt Karate Instructor
For my I.T. and web development, I have a first B.Sc degree in computer science from Cambridge
- How much do you charge?
From thirty pounds an hour with a contribution toward my travel if over 10 miles radius of Baldock Herts.
Self defence classes are depending on how many students attend, (no more than 25 in any one session please) also, although I will teach both genders it's better if this is not mixed classes.
I will gladly offer a free half hour consultation for interested groups for any discipline. A contribution toward travel costs would be welcome however.
- Where do you teach?
Your home or office premises anywhere between London and Cambridge.
For self defence please make sure the teaching area is suitable (ask for details), for I.T. a PC or laptop with appropriate software is required.
- When are you available?
Any time between 9am and 7pm Monday to Sunday.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
From 13 upward.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
Students can be prepared for any I.T. exam from secondary schools to HE and post grad.
