About Claire
I taught English in France as a teaching assistant in a high school and also as a tutor (both for children and adults), so I have quite a bit of experience in structuring lessons to meet the student where they're at!
And on the language side, my entire master's program was in French and I wrote my thesis in French, so my grasp of the language is strong. As someone who learned French in school and by living there (not through French family), I know how difficult language acquisition can be, so I understand methods that keep people engaged. I think it's important to have a good mix of activities (written exercises, video clips, texts) and also focus on topics the student already likes (e.g., cooking, poetry, sports).

Having spent three years in Paris, I have a strong grasp of the language as it's really spoken. I can help you with conversation fluidity, pronunciation, building your vocabulary, and recommending contemporary pieces of French culture. We can work from a textbook, going through exercises together, or I can structure lessons around a topic of your choice (e.g., if you like art, we can read and discuss articles about visiting exhibits in French museums). If you're working on your French in advance of a trip, we can prepare your vocabulary for common phrases and basic conversation.
