About Theresa
I am an experienced tutor at all levels --- from Beginners to degree level. I positively enjoy the teaching experience, which involves encouraging, developing and helping to motivate students of whatever age to improve their language skills and achieve the immediate goal. In addition to this, the underlying hope is always to encourage a life-long interest in the French language and culture, and to help the student to become an autonomous learner. I have taught French to students of all ages, from infancy (my daughter) through school-age and later. To the lessons I bring a range of materials that are age-appropriate and that will engage the interest and enliven the sessions so that confidence increases and rapid progress is made. I attended French Language courses at the University of Bordeaux during my undergraduate studies, I hold two post-graduate degrees (University of London, School of Advanced Study), and am a published author in the U.S.A. and the U.K. Following is a list of my academic qualifications: BA Hons, French and Linguistics with Russian, University of Brighton Diploma in French (Distinction) University of Brighton; Teaching Certificate, University of Brighton MA, University of London MPhil, University of London University : - other - - University of Brighton - BA Hons [2.1 (Top of the list)] - University of London, School of Advanced Studies - MPhil/PhD [N/A] - University of London, School of Advanced Studies - MA [Distinction] School : Salisbury College of Arts A Levels - French [A] Prizes and Scholarships : 2006: Travel Award of £1,000 (competitive) by the Music & Letters Trust for travel to the Society for American Music Conference at Pittsburgh, USA, 1–4 March 2007, to present a conference paper; 2001: Student Travel Award to attend the Society for American Music conference at Toronto, Canada; 2000: Travel Grant to the USA (MPhil research), Central Research Fund of the University of London; 1991: Collins English Dictionaries Prize (sponsored by HarperCollins Publishers), Brighton Polytechnic. Dear Sir or Madam,
I am a former student of Mrs Falconer and have no hesitation in recommending her as a French tutor. Her language classes were very pleasant, conducted in a very friendly atmosphere. I gained much from them. In fact, as a lawyer I have frequent contact with people of different tongues.I am a former student of Mrs Falconer and would like to point out that she has done an excellent job. Her language classes were very enjoyable, carried out in a very friendly atmosphere, and I profited enormously from them. In fact, I went on to study languages at university and am a teacher myself now. After the language classes with Mrs Falconer we stayed in touch and have been friends ever since. She's a great person and an extremely competent teacher of languages!
