My aim is to be flexible in my approach, and encourage my students in their studies to build the confidence they need, and find the materials that best suit their interests. The classes I give are really to allow them to become that artist they want to become and enjoy the experience along the way. I can also provide professional advice, such as photographing work, applying for competitions, and working with galleries.
Having completed a post graduate degree at the Royal Drawing School, where I won the Rothermere award for my drawings, I learnt to teach on their outreach programme and subsequently taught drawing at Kensington Palace to both adults and 11-15 year olds.
I am an award winning painter and printmaker who exhibits regularly in national competitions including this years BP Award and Threadneedle Prize. My work is represented by the Fine Art Society in London, and I exhibit across the UK. Portraiture and observational study is my specialist subject, but I also encourage the use of imagination, literature and abstract elements in my teaching. Having worked for major auction houses and galleries across London, I can assist in professional development such as photographing work, developing your CV, applying for competitions and working with galleries.
Perfect! Very friendly and pleased to have a session with him.
Oliver is a fantastic teacher, he is very relaxed, patient and there is comfort in his presence. As an artist, he displays impressive skill in draughtsmanship (no doubt enhanced by his time at the Royal Drawing School). He has an ability to capture people in a brief number of strokes which are defined by a personal hand and line. The number of prestigious awards (Threadneedle, BP Portrait) he has earned through exhibits are a testament to the quality of his work and his growing place in the art world. I have had the fortune to spend many learning hours by his side in the studio and have found his understanding of art history, colour, pigments, light and broad knowledge of technique a great teaching in helping me guide my own work. I have every trust that he would be an important source of teaching and inspiration for anyone seeking to develop painting and drawing skill.
