About Laura
A veteran instructor with over thirty years experience in the classroom, I am an award-winning writer whose work has graced newsletters, blogs as well as the stage. Trained both in the US and in England, my in-depth study of Shakespeare and Restoration Drama with acclaimed British artists has instilled in me a great respect for the power of language and a high degree of competency in teaching Literary Analysis. Experienced in historical research, I believe in the power of studying primary source documents and uncovering the forgotten stories of the past which inform the current national and global state of affairs.

As an experienced instructor, my approach is student-driven, with care taken to design lessons to have the maximum impact while attending to individual needs. I believe in humor and positive criticism and am especially creative in my approach based on years of working with a wide range of students with varying levels of experience and skill. A typical lesson plan would begin with a prompt crafted to inspire discussion followed by an outline of goals for the session. Then specific task-related activities will be conducted to teach new skills while reinforcing others. Students are continually encouraged to supply feedback. The session concludes with a review of new material, goals for the next session and a concluding activity that relates the work of the day to current events. Lessons can be tailored for the following grade levels: 7-through College in English, Literature, Humanities, Writing, Composition and History.

Perfect! Laura has been an incredible fit with our son. She's really helping him to make huge strides on multiple fronts in the language arts. She is a phenomenal instructor, and knows the Washington school system very well. We highly recommend her!
