About Arthur
I am a musician and intern at Old street studios, starting a music production course at IMW in January. I am also an experienced and certified English, music and maths tutor with a public school education and a philosophy degree at the University of Newcastle.
I have experience working as a teacher at Eaton House and as a tutor. My approach to teaching is founded upon two core beliefs; that every person is different, and that no topic is inherently boring. It is integral therefore, for a tutor to be creative, modelling their lessons on an individual basis to spark interest and maintain attention.
With my philosophy degree I was able to explore my breadth of interests, combining my mathematical, logical and problem-solving mind with my creative artistic sensibility, and in 2020 my sister and I released a self-produced album ‘Where the Summer’s Sung’ with 4 tracks played on the BBC.
Whilst graduating from Newcastle University with a 2:1 in Philosophy, I taught English and Maths GCSE students and English speaking classes. In 2017 I also attained online TEFL training which helped my pedagogical skills enormously.
At the moment, I have 5 Ukrainian students who I teach online and I am a teaching assistant at Eaton House school.

I think a tutor needs to be organized, adaptable and personable to inspire students. Firstly, a tutor needs strong communication skills to nurture an autodidactic attitude. As tutoring is predominately 1:1, it is essential to establish a relationship with the tutee, where they respect you and are comfortable asking questions. By engaging with a student as a person, ascertaining what motivates and excites them, a tutor can create a stimulating environment, relaying the value of resilience and a tenacious desire to learn outside of lesson time.
Secondly, a tutor should be capable of shaping their lessons to best suit their student’s individual interests and learning styles. My approach to teaching is founded upon two core beliefs; that every child is different, and that no topic is inherently boring. It is integral therefore, for a tutor to be creative, modelling their lessons on an individual basis to spark interest and maintain attention.
Lastly, a tutor must create a structure to nurture a student towards their goal. From personal academic experience, I’ve seen how goal setting is core to academic success. By breaking down difficult topics into manageable tasks, a student’s confidence, resilience, and ability to focus are greatly improved.
