1.5 hour lesson = £133.50 (including court fee) (£33.37 EACH!)

2 hour lesson = £178 (including court fee) £44.50 EACH!)

*My CANCELLATION POLICY is: I have a 50% lesson fee LATE cancellation policy unless notified AT LEAST 72 hours in advance (100% if LESS than 24 hours)

However even if notified in advance the court fee is STILL chargeable as it is non refundable when booked and paid for.

Also if the time needs to be changed on the same day it is an additional £6.

*The ONLY time the policy DOESN'T apply is when it comes to HEAVY rain, if the rain is too bad when you arrive, the lesson fee (either partially or full) will go towards the next lesson.

*The student still needs to attend the lesson UNLESS I call it off beforehand. (Usually by the time the lesson starts the weather is ok as it changes every few minutes in the UK so most of the time the lesson does not need to be cancelled).

Light rain is ok heavy is not, likewise with snow.

If the courts are too wet to play on it is still possible to do serving and standing drills so there generally is no need for a lesson to be cancelled unless the weather is very bad.

*If I am unable to fill the slot but the student has cancelled more than 72 hours in advance the student is STILL responsible for paying the court fee as it is non-refundable once booked.

*Students are responsible for the court fee if booked elsewhere or surrounding areas other than my designated courts (or anywhere else).

*Additional materials to customise racquet need to be purchased directly by the student. I can give advice on where to buy them for the best price.

Find out more about Chen Yao Han 陈耀汉

  • What age did you start playing sport? Tell us about this time or moment in your life.

I started playing tennis at 5 years old and at that time the racquet technology was still in the pre-graphite era (which is the material they still use now to this day).

You had to be very good with excellent hand eye coordination to be good at tennis as the head sizes were only 85 sq inches, then in the 90's graphite became the norm but the head sizes were still only 90 sq inch, then 95, then 98, now finally 100 is the norm.

These dramatic shifts in racquet technology helped me as a player and interestingly as a coach as I have a deep understanding and specialty in tennis equipment and customisation that I can pass on this expertise to my students to help them achieve better results more quickly.
  • What are your favourite sports; those that you practice at a high level, a simple hobby, and a sport that you'd still like to discover?

Tennis is my one true passion but not just as a sport itself but as a hobby in regards to the equipment side of the game.

There are so many complexities and variables now that you can maximise in your equipment to gain you a competitive advantage either by stringing, adding weight or changing balance of your racquet. It truly is a game changer.

Also as a youngster I represented my Borough in Chess tournaments despite being only 10 years old. Tennis and Chess were the 2 things I excelled at in life so now I am able to use both in my hobby and passion and career.
  • What gives you the motivation and passion to pursue your sport?

The motivation comes from the drive to succeed and get better everyday by improving my game and my students.

I have always had a passion for tennis and it is a sport I watch and have played for over 35 years.
  • Do you have a sporting achievement that you're particularly proud of?

I am most proud of my win at a junior tennis camp when I was very young, despite being much smaller than my rivals I was able to win using various tactical decisions and intelligence to figure out how to beat them.

This tactical know how helps me as a coach by giving guidance to my students how to win their matches by understanding the tactical psychology behind constructing a point or applying pressure at critical moments to encourage unforced errors from their opponents.
  • How have your achievements and challenges made you a better sportsperson?

By winning tennis tournaments as a junior against much taller rivals it gave me the confidence that no matter the situation no matter who I can play I can tactically beat them.

As an expert chess player in my youth I have the tactical know how needed which can be applied to any sport.

This helps me as a coach because as much as tennis is a physical sport there is a great amount of mental dexterity required due to the scoring system so my achievements in Chess has helped me pass on this knowledge to my students so they can play better but more importantly at the most important time(s).
  • If you had to go for a jog with a famous athlete, who would you choose? And what questions would you ask them?

I would like to go for a jog with any of the Big 3 (Federer, Djokovic, Nadal) and how they would in this era in their prime handle someone like Sinner as the way he is playing right now looks invincibie.

They have all played Sinner before he reached his current prime so these true match ups would be very interesting to watch because he has a fear factor in other players which the Big 3 always had, so any current match up between them would be box office entertainment and it be interesting to see what tactics they applied or who handled the pressure best.

Because we will never get to see these match ups we can only speculate from past matches but will never truly know, which is a shame.
  • How do you help people stay motivated?

I try to help people stay motivated as many people come for different reasons. Some come to get better at tennis (obviously) but some come to de-stress to hit some balls and some just want to take on a new hobby as they excel in other sports.

Understanding each person is individual and have different triggers, which will get the best out of them is what is key for me.

Encouragement is important, especially when students are struggling to do things and sometimes just changing the way they do the same tasks achieves a better result.
  • What makes you a Superprof in sports?

I am a beginner specialist so I have various students of various talent levels coming to me so I recognise my methods need to be adapted for each person so they will not only achieve results quickly but it will motivate them to keep coming back and improve.

My methods and teaching techniques, coupled with my expertise in racquet technology and tennis equipment, means I am able to do things others are not.

Traditionally, tennis coaches only teach technique and know little (or some) about racquets/strings and none (or little) about customisation.

This is due to the philosophy it is the player not the racquet, but due to advancements in racquet/string technology over the years that just isn't the case in 2025. The technology is so good now that ANYONE can be good at tennis provided they have the right equipment and are able to follow basic instructions and most importantly have my teaching methods to get the best out of them.

I am one of the only few tutors who not only teaches technique, but has expertise in equipment and customisation. You will usually find others only do 1 out of the 3 or 2 out of the 3.

The things I am doing on the customisation side no one else in the world is doing, especially if you look on dedicated tennis forums/social media. So I pride myself on being a true innovator and growing the sport at a grassroots level.
