About Tom
I'm Tom, a professional drummer, producer and tutor. I’ve played for 19 years in a wide range of bands and scenarios, able to adapt my sound and playing style to suit a variety of genres and artist’s visions. I graduated with a first class degree in Production and Popular Music at Leeds Conservatoire in 2022, and since then I've played or recorded for a range of artists such as Trevor Horn, Maverick Sabre, Seal, The Corrs, Art of Noise, Common Saints, and Amie Blu. I've learned a lot about what it takes to be a drummer in the industry - in particular what people really look for in a drummer. In my drumming I pride myself in serving the song and helping an artist achieve their vision in whatever way possible. With a background in production, my sound is imperative to my musical identity, and I’m passionate about finding the ideal tones and textures for any scenario. Self-taught from the age of 4, my drumming roots lie in soul, rock and pop music.
With four years of teaching 1-1 and in primary schools under my belt, I've had experience teaching students of all ages and experience levels and can tailor our lessons to your exact needs.

An alternative to traditional drum lessons that tend to focus on reading, theory and rudiments - I will instead focus more on helping you craft your own sound, feel, and personality as a drummer. If you're looking for a drum teacher to help you with your grades - I may not be the guy for you... If you ARE looking to: - Play better as part of a band - Improve your sound and tone - Develop your groove and feel - Be a great session musician - Learn how to tune your drums - Learn songs quickly ... then this could be just right for you! I specialise in R&B/Soul, Pop, Rock, Hip/Hop, and Funk. Lesson times range from 30 mins to 2 hours. Can be as frequent or infrequent as you like! Lessons are for all ages, primarily aimed at beginners and intermediates, but can also be for more advanced players who struggle in live/recording environments or feel like they want to improve at any of the points mentioned above. Before starting we'll have a free video consultation session where we can get to know each other and you can tell me what you hope to achieve through our lessons. Thanks!

Perfect! I love my weekly lessons with Tom! He's warm, knowledgeable, professional and a brilliant all round teacher who has such a gift of musicality that I feel privileged that he's sharing with me! We're having a blast just picking apart tunes and I'm amazed at how Tom can break it all down for me into digestible grooves. 10/10 highly recommend.

I reached out to Tom after I found him on instagram, and he's been guiding me through my journey as a beginner drummer for a few months now. He's warm, supportive, highly knowledgable and always has great suggestions for new things to practice. I highly recommend Tom to anyone looking to improve their drumming or general musicality!
Had two lessons with Tom so far. Organised the sessions really well from directions to discussing plans for the day. He's very easy to work with. Has a plan but constantly modifies it according to your input my mixes will be so much better and quicker from now on.
Tom gave me a few lessons to help me get started playing drums - he was friendly, made the lessons fun and gave me some really good advice. Highly recommend!

Details
If you opt to have the lessons at my home in East London, we’ll be using an electronic drum kit due to noise limitations. If playing on an acoustic drum kit is important to you, we can book a practice space in Leyton for an additional £10/hr.
Please note that if you wish to have your lesson at your own home, a travel fee that we agree on beforehand will be added on to the cost of the lesson - this helps cover the costs and time spent travelling to and from your home. Thanks!
