My teaching methods are very much inspired by other people's teaching. My parents used to run a language school, so I have learnt a lot of teaching methods from them, and I have also taken many language classes myself and therefore have learnt a lot from my own teachers too. My classes depend on the students' needs, but generally I would have some reading, listening, writing or conversation exercises to begin the class. Then I like to pick up on previously learnt vocabulary or expressions and test the students' learning through an exercise. I always like to end the class on a positive and fun note, so I prepare a short game to end the class.
I have an international and multilingual background. I am British/Swiss and bilingual in English and Italian. I am also fluent in French and Spanish, and Upper Intermediate in German. After completing high school in Lugano, Switzerland, I took a gap year which was entirely self-organised and self-funded. During the first half of the gap year I worked as front of house staff in an Italian restaurant in the French part of Switzerland, while improving my French. Later I took a German course in Berlin where I gained the Goethe B2 certificate, and in the latter part of the year, as mentioned previously I taught English in Darkhan, Mongolia.
Completed my gap year, I moved to the UK to study Management with Marketing at Warwick University. The course was challenging and stimulating, and had the opportunity to spend time on extracurricular activities, such as Volleyball, Tennis, and fundraising (£3000 for Meningitis Research Foundation). Following my first degree, I did my Masters in Strategic Design and Entrepreneurship at Copenhagen Business School. During this time, I was able to gain some experience in Strategic Marketing and Design in a Design studio in Copenhagen as well as in film production through an internship in a documentary studio in Montreal, Canada.
I am very active and an outdoors person: I love playing volleyball and tennis, hiking and swimming in the sea. I also spend my free time painting, reading books and watching films. I am a people person, I love meeting new people, I'm a good listener and am very empathetic.
My name is Alexia. I am bilingual in English and Italian, and am also fluent in French and Spanish. I have recently graduated from a Masters in Business and Design in Copenhagen and now I am back in London to give language classes.
I like to teach in a friendly and fun way. I am quite demanding and I always establish my own objective for the lesson (what I want my student to have learnt by the end of the lesson). My lessons are structured around the students' needs, vary in terms of techniques in order to best suit the students, and always end with a 5 minute game/challenge.
