About Daniel

My background across biology, chemistry and physics throughout school and university has enabled me to develop a deep scientific understanding of biology across my undergraduate study of Biomedical, Health and Life Sciences. This understanding stood to me, as I ventured to San Francisco and worked on therapeutic antibodies and conceptualising novel therapeutic concepts across immunology and oncology. Following this experience, I began studying medicine and hope to utilise my enthusiasm and understanding of biology to help people of all abilities!

Hello! I'm Daniel and I graduated from Biomedical, Health and Life Sciences. Following my degree, I worked in a San Francisco biotech and now am studying medicine at UCD. My GAMSAT prep was short, however, I made huge progress during this time and documented how my approach helped me succeed. During our lessons, I will share these materials (S1, S2, S3) with you and have many ACER-marked example essays which should prove as examples of what to do for S2. Furthermore, my scientific understanding will equip you with the tools to progress past this exam. Lastly, I believe that the mental prep needed for this exam is often overlooked, however, this is an aspect that I place great emphasis on and think that it is the missing piece in many GAMSAT learning materials. I am very enthusiastic and would love to help you on your journey towards med. I look forward to meeting you all and hope that I can prove an asset to your GAMSAT efforts!

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

When I was in secondary school, I always enjoyed opportunities to discuss science and work through problems with others. Although scientific problems can often be frustrating, the persistence required and the reward that follows make the process worthwhile. You learn a great deal by pushing through difficult challenges, and I find it genuinely rewarding to share those lessons with others. Naturally, this led me to enjoy tutoring as well.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I most often teach material related to the GAMSAT medical entry exams, ranging from essay writing to biology, chemistry, and physics. Biology is definitely my favourite subject to teach, as I enjoy helping students connect concepts and understand the bigger picture behind the science.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes — both my science teachers in school and my boss in my first job inspired me greatly. What they all shared was a strong sense of curiosity, which is something I’ve always admired and tried to develop myself.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Patience, genuine enthusiasm for the subject matter, and truly caring about the student’s progress are all essential qualities in a good tutor.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I will always remember one of my secondary school teachers speaking about his experience working on clinical trials to help develop treatments for patients in need. It connected my natural curiosity about science with the idea of making a tangible difference in people’s lives. Since then, I’ve increasingly realised that progress is rarely made through sudden moments of genius, but rather by people who are curious, compassionate, and willing to work consistently hard.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

Chemistry has probably been my least favourite subject at times, much like many other students. However, having to work harder at it has actually helped me understand the material more deeply and explain it in a simpler, clearer way for students.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general, an element of the subject, or something completely different?

I would say my main passion is scientific research and innovation. I enjoy learning new things, linking concepts together, and sharing that sense of curiosity and enjoyment with others through teaching.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

I genuinely care about my students and see it as a privilege that they place their trust in me to support them on their medical journey. From there, the patience, effort, and dedication naturally follow.
