About Matt
Hello! My name is Matt, and I’m a native English tutor from Southampton, England. I help adult learners become more confident speaking English, communicate naturally, and express themselves clearly in real-life situations.
In the past 3 years, I’ve helped students from a wide range of backgrounds build their confidence and communicate naturally — from lawyers who need to speak confidently in court, to PhD students preparing to present their research, and even a Premier League footballer looking to improve his interview skills!
I’m TEFL-qualified, having completed a 120-hour TEFL qualification with Distinction, and I also hold a specialist qualification in Teaching Business English. My lessons are built around guided conversation, with topics tailored to your interests, goals and level. I provide gentle live correction and clear, practical feedback so you can improve without feeling self-conscious about making mistakes.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, music, football, learning languages (especially Italian), and going to the gym.

I’ve been teaching English for 3 years and specialise in conversational English. My lessons are relaxed, friendly and tailored to your goals, with plenty of conversation, useful vocabulary and gentle correction to help you improve without feeling nervous about making mistakes.
Rather than relying on rigid textbooks or heavy homework, we focus on using English in a way that feels natural and useful. You’ll build vocabulary through conversation while working on pronunciation, grammar and the common mistakes that may be holding you back.

The lessons with Matthew have increased my confidence in speaking English. He is an attentive, precise and kind teacher. I'm grateful to him.
Two years ago, I was struggling a lot with pronunciation and fluency in english. French people being french, people around me had a hard time understanding me. As an expat, it was really a pain to connect with others because of that.
So I searched for a (great) english teacher.
And I found Matt !
In a couple of weeks, my english level improved quite fast. I stopped making my usual mistakes and I could communicate complex ideas in a smooth way.
The great thing about Matt is that the lessons are FUN ! It was an excellent balance between teaching and connecting.
The lessons were one of my favorite times of my week. :)
Nowadays, I speak on a daily basis with native english speakers with ease (and they forget sometimes that I am french - I know hard to believe aha)
