TPR is the teaching method of which coordination of speech and action is built to attempt to teach through physical activity. The Natural Approach introduces the language by exposing the students to hearing and understanding before expecting them to speak. The four language skills are taught in the order of natural acquisition listening, speaking, reading and writing. The focus of these approaches is that listening comprehension is the basis for language acquisition, and that language is acquired not learnt. Special attention is paid to reducing learning anxiety and producing self confident learners in an environment which increases motivation. The use of the students native language is rare and the meanings are made clear by mime and drawings.
Worked directly with children aged 5-14 years as an English teacher. This was part of a volunteer program in India situated in the countries second biggest slum. I designed lesson plans and completed tasks for teachers as well as working one on one and with small groups of children. Developed skills of working with others, coping with stress and taking direction well, which could be transferred to a customer service role.
