1st lesson free!
My teaching is friendly and very informal. I start off with the basic two handed BSL alphabet so that if you don't want to continue with my classes (although I hope you do!) you will be able to communicate with a Deaf person (even if it is only with fingerspelling and the Deaf person will probably be bored by the time you get to the end of the sentence :-) ) and make yourself understood.
I use a lot of handouts and the first 10 - 15 weeks we will be learning A LOT of vocabulary.
I have been a British Sign Language tutor for 20 years, teaching hearing adults. I have mainly taught for the local Council but have taught privately too. I am a hearing tutor so am able to explain BSL to my learners so that they grasp the concept of BSL easier.
Perfect! organised enthusiastic patient

Helen's a fantastic teacher and I love learning sign language from her. She's friendly, extremely patient and makes the learning process so enjoyable. I wouldn't want to learn from anyone else!
I have been attending beginners sign language lessons with Helen. Her lessons are a pleasure and I feel we progress at a good rate. Helen is knowledgeable and can answer questions that are thrown at her. Would definitely recommend Helen.
Helen is a fun and dynamic teacher who makes sign language lessons enjoyable. She has been effective in transitioning to remote teaching during lockdown, with an emphasis on maintaining student accuracy when they learn new signs remotely. Helen teaches South Wales signs, which are slightly unique in terms of BSL. I would recommend Helen if you're looking to learn BSL for the first time, or if you'd like to brush up on your skills.
I've been learning BSL with Helen during lockdown. Helen is a very experienced tutor. She's not only an excellent tutor, but she also makes learning fun and enjoyable, which helps me remember what I've been learning. I couldn't recommend her more highly.

As a newly qualified teacher, I needed as many new skills as possible to apply for teaching jobs. I signed up in line and then met Helen in the first session! Helen was phenomenal and I went on to complete 3 extra courses with Helen. I would definitely recommend Helen!
Helen is a trustworthy tutor as she gives you time to ask questions, slow things down and makes the classes interesting! Would recommend helen
