In my many years of schooling, I have been able to tell the difference between an average teacher and an awesome teacher. There are two things that differentiate them. The first thing is the teacher's implication and the second is the teacher's passion for his subject. A typical tutoring session would go as is : I asses where your need lies exactly. From there, I see if there are any underlying concepts that are not understood. I firmly believe that properly building the foundation is the key to any proper academic comprehension.
I find it is important to be able to break down and simplify concepts to apply them in various mathematical contexts.
By being a very understanding and calm person, I focus on developing a friendly environment to ease the learning process.
