About Joisah
I am am MBA graduate, a senior lecturer at a private University in South Africa. I have more than a decade of teaching coupled with over 10 years working in the financial field as a business advisor for an international bank.
I moved into teaching because of the following reasons:
-the need to improve the quality of education in this country, then you may become a teacher to affect change
-to contribute to your community in a meaningful way. Teaching is one of the most direct ways to make an impact.
-as a teacher, I more than just an educator–I are a mentor, a confidant and a friend. One of the most common reasons to become a teacher is to make a difference in the lives of as many students as I can.

Research has consistently shown that different teaching approaches often result in substantial
differences in both the ways students approach their learning and in the quality of that learning. In
addition there is an increasing recognition of the importance of classrooms that can be characterised
as ‘learning communities’. In these classrooms, there is an emphasis on building rich meanings for
ideas rather than completing tasks. Students in these classrooms are intellectually engaged, and
they feel a sense of collaborative partnership with their peers and their teachers. Classrooms like
