About Arjan
I'm Arjan, a Computer Science graduate from Trinity Hall, Cambridge. I remember the admissions process as highly daunting, primarily because it was so hard to know what "good" actually looked like, and I mostly figured it out by trial and error. What I enjoy most about tutoring is removing that fog for someone else: turning a vague, intimidating goal into a clear set of things you can actually practise and get better at.
I like teaching in the way Cambridge taught me: through questions rather than lectures. I'd rather help you reach an answer yourself than hand it over, because that's the thinking the exams and interviews are really testing, and it's far more satisfying than being talked at. I'm patient, I don't assume you should already know things, and I take it as my job to find the explanation that makes an idea finally click for you specifically.
Outside of tutoring I'm a keen photographer and I've studied Japanese for several years, so I understand from the other side what it's like to learn something difficult slowly and stick with it.

I graduated from Cambridge this summer with a First in Computer Science. At A-level I achieved four A*s in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science, including a top-50-in-the-country result in Computer Science. I sat the Oxbridge admissions process myself only a few years ago, so everything I teach comes from recent, first-hand experience rather than second-hand knowledge of how it used to work.
For admissions coaching, we focus on the three things that decide outcomes: a personal statement built on real evidence of engagement with your subject rather than empty enthusiasm, structured admissions test preparation built on past papers, and realistic mock interviews modelled on my own recent experience of the real thing, with honest, specific feedback each time.
For A-level Computer Science and Maths, lessons are shaped around your exam board and driven by past paper practice: we walk through real questions step by step until the methods are second nature.
Lessons run online with a shared screen and whiteboard, usually lasting an hour, and are aimed at sixth-form students preparing for A-levels or university applications. The first session is a free, relaxed consultation: we work out where you are and what you're aiming for, then build a plan from there.
