About Mia-Helena
A bit of backstory. I had big troubles with my attendance at school although I never struggled comprehending the work that I was required to know. Did well during my SATS and received a full bursary to go to a private school for my secondary education but struggled with attendance and changed to go to a public school close to home. Struggled with attendance and went to a new school that opened and shut down after 2 years. Attended the whole of year 11 and excelled during my GCSEs very last-minute. I know what it is like to struggle with little motivation and equally know what it takes to excel. I couldn't choose the subjects I wanted to study at college, spent a year with my grandmother in Serbia studying a basic Serbian Language certificate and decided upon my subjects. Attended a college that required two trains to get there and left after 5 months again struggling with motivation. Lost my chance to study further for free and became a fundraiser. Got a Cabinet Office sponsored higher apprenticeship as an EO for Governance and Secretariat in Westminster aged 19 but during the 7 month wait for security clearance my family moved away and thought they had a sale on the family home in Southampton so I needed to move to London. Transferred to the London fundraising office and quickly got promoted to team leader during my wait to become a Civil Servant. I struggled dealing with family being so far away after 7 months as a Civil Servant and therefore struggled with motivation at work and found myself unable to work for a period. Couldn't work and left my role and became a Learning Support Assistant at a Southampton college and began tutoring. Due to a difficult personal life I left my role as a Learning Support Assistant after 6 months and completed a Level 2 Certificate in Counselling. I eventually became an Administrator at Southampton County Court on a temporary contract, still tutoring. This ended and I became a Telephone Sales Agent for two weeks before becoming a Retail Associate for 6 months. I have been tutoring for two years and have run over 150 sessions with 8 different students in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Handwriting Improvement, GCSE English Language and Literature, GCSE Mathematics, KS3 and KS2 Maths and English and draw from my experiences in all past roles. Recently made a decision to work on my own terms as a Tutor, Art Therapist, Artist, Model, Dreadlock-Maker and hopefully soon also Proofreader and Examiner (post-completion of further certificates). I am absolutely overwhelmed by the positivity of my feedback and feel very happy doing what I do. It is not always easy, but if one thing’s for sure I can say that if there is a will, there is a way. It’s just a matter of how much you are able to invest in comprehending and grasping what is required of you to be where you want to be and then actually doing it and maintaining it. Having tutored year 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11 year old students and students half a decade older than me wishing to improve their English as a foreign language and supported high-needs students on Educational Health Care Plans in college plus having been a fundraiser on national road trips I find it really easy and greatly enjoyable to connect with students and am able to help them connect with the process of learning during and outside of sessions. With every movement, consciously or unconsciously we are learning. It is amazing that we have the ability as human beings to focus our attention on what we so wish.

I've known Mia many years and she is a great friend. She is a interesting and intelligent person who will put in her all. I couldn't recommend Mia enough, she is a fun caring person who wants to help you achieve your goals and will go the extra mile to do so.
I would recommend Mia to anyone. I’m not afraid to ask her questions as I would usually struggle, she makes me feel like her equal and that alone gives me motivation to want to do better. She’s incredibly intelligent, brings a wonderfully open and positive atmosphere as well as being able to teach me things I never thought I could learn.
Mia is the most welcoming tutor I know, with many teaching methods she always finds a way to help you regardless of your learning pattern! With Mias help I was able to learn to love maths and it has become one of my strongest academic subjects! Not only is she a brilliant teacher, she is a brilliant person too.
