Hi, I am Caroline and I am a fully qualified and experienced languages teacher and tutor. I cater for all levels in French, Spanish, German, Italian and Japanese. All lessons are tailored to your own needs to make the lessons fun!
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I can offer language learning in French to A- level, Spanish to A- level, German to GCSE level, Italian to A- level and Japanese to GCSE level. I can also provide tuition at primary level, which has in the past led to students taking a GCSE exam early, and for adults wishing to take exams. I also cover IGCSE exams and Pre-U.
Adult and young learners of pre-school and primary age are very welcome too.
Adult lessons are of course tailored to your individual needs whether that is for moving abroad, for business, for holidays or just for fun.
I also offer support for International Bacalaureat and the Proficiency exams at all levels.
I do work myself so you know that you will have me as your tutor too and I do like to carry out a phone call before lessons start so we can make a head start in the lessons.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a BA hons from the University of Hull in French which included me taking free electives in Spanish, Italian and Japanese. I also opted to take a post GCSE German course.
I obtained my PGCE at the University of York in Modern Foreign Languages in 2004 and gained Qualified Teacher Status in 2005.
In 2011 I obtained certification on a 120 hour Teaching English as a Foreign Language course.
I am currently working towards the HSK qualifications in Chinese and learning Swedish for fun!
- How much do you charge?
An hour's lesson costs from £18 for non-exam based lessons and £20 per hour for GCSE, IGCSE and A-level lessonss.. Please contact me about learning in groups of 2 to 4 people.
Students can also contact me between lessons with any questions as I know that it is between lessons that the questions come up.
If you book daytime lessons before 1st June 2018 I will offer a discount.
- Where do you teach?
Lessons take place at my home in the St John's area of Wakefield where there is a whole host of resources. Students can experience language learning using resources online so the learning can continue at home between lessons (as well as homework!).
Online lessons are also available all over the UK and from abroad via Skype or Face-time. We use an online whiteboard and I can share the computer screen with you so there are plenty of effective ways to learn from a distance. All notes and worksheets will be emailed both prior and after the lesson and I am more than happy to answer any questions between lessons
- When are you available?
I am available all week during the day, evenings and some hours areavailable over the weekend. I am more than happy to discuss availability to see how I can help.
Please contact me about school holidays as there are some additional hours available especially if you would like some tuition in preparation for exams, going abroad or for a new challenge.

I am happy to teach languages at all levels from primary to adult learning including GCSE, IGCSE, AS/ A2 levels, IB, Pre-U and all Proficiency exams. I am also ready for teaching the new exam specifications for the new GCSE and A-level exams and I am aware of the changes and work needed to help the students.
However, if you just want to learn for fun, you are more than welcome too and lessons are adapted to your own needs so we can cover different situations.
I am currently learning Chinese and Swedish so I know what it is like to learn a new language from scratch!
All ages are welcome, it is never too early or too late to learn a language!

- Do you have a personal message for students?
the sky's the limit with a language! Start learning now and reap the benefits!
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been a teacher in a Specialist Language College near Wakefield for eight years, teaching all levels of languages including Primary, and a private tutor for over 7 years when I decided to tutor from home following the arrival of my daughter. As a teacher I have achieved excellent exam results and introduced Italian to the school as an extra GCSE subject. I am very proud of my students and their achievements. I also work for three distance learning schools and therefore work with different exam boards. It is great to meet students from all over the world and see how much everyone achieves. I am also a consultant for distance learning A-level courses so we know what the students need to make the most of learning out of the classroom.
As part of my PGCE, I taught at schools in North Yorkshire, in Richmond and in Scarborough, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I have also experience of teaching adults on both a one-to-one basis and in classes at all levels.
As a tutor, I have gained experience teaching for IB exams and for the different Proficiency exams such as the DALF and IELTS. Students have done well in their exams. Many students have successfully taken additional exams out if school with excellent results and many are adult learners but some have been students who have taken their exams early than at the usual time in school.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes and I am more than happy to show this to students. Please do not hesitate to ask.
- Where and with whom did you train?
University of York 2004 and I trained at schools in Scarborough and Richmond in North Yorkshire.
I gained Qualified Teacher Status at 'A Specialist Language College' near Wakefield.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I am immensely proud of all the hard work my students put into lessons and although all are at different levels and ages, they are making excellent progress and follow the given advice well. I am pleased to say that mock exam results have been high this year for the new exams so I am very pleased with how well my students have worked.
Last year they achieved excellent results and keep working hard. It is wonderful to see how many flourish with plenty of support. Also, I would like to say a huge well-done to my adult learners who have taken exams or made excellent progress in lessons. The results have been amazing and I am a very happy tutor. What more could I ask for!
