About Patricia
I am a professional physics educator holding a PhD in Physics, a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) with a Gold Medal & Distinction, and a B.Sc. (First-Class Honours) in Physics. I bring more than 25 years of classroom teaching experience across physics, mathematics, and general science, combining deep subject mastery with proven pedagogical expertise.
Through Dr. Pi’s Learning Lab, I provide personalized online tutoring for high school, AP, IB, and first-year university students across Canada. My approach focuses on conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and helping students build both confidence and independence in challenging subjects.
I work with both high-achieving students seeking advanced support and students who need help rebuilding confidence and strengthening foundational understanding.
Subjects include high school physics and mathematics, AP Physics 1 & 2, IB Physics SL/HL, first-year university physics, and MCAT-related physics preparation. Sessions are conducted online through Zoom.

Lessons are conducted online through Zoom using an interactive iPad and GoodNotes setup that allows students to see problems worked through in real time, ask questions throughout the session, and collaborate actively rather than simply watching solutions being presented.
Sessions are individualized to the student’s course, background, and goals, and may include concept review, guided problem solving, worked examples, assignment support, test preparation, and strategies for approaching complex multi-step problems. Students are encouraged to participate actively in the problem-solving process so that they build both confidence and independent analytical skills over time.
Support is available for high school physics and mathematics, AP Physics 1 & 2, IB Physics SL/HL, first-year university physics, and MCAT-related physics preparation.

I’ve known and worked with Patricia for 13 years, and she is an exceptional physics and math teacher. Although she has a PhD in Physics and an incredible depth of knowledge, what has always impressed me most is her ability to explain concepts at a student’s level. She has a real talent for making difficult ideas understandable and helping students build confidence in physics. She’s knowledgeable, patient, encouraging, and has a great sense of humour. I would highly recommend her to any student looking for help with high school physics.
I've seen firsthand just how exceptional Dr. Patricia Mitchler is as an educator. With a Ph.D. in physics (and 26 years of teaching experience) she has the rare ability to take intimidating concepts and explain them in an approachable, clear way. She builds real confidence in students and is a fantastic choice for IB and AP university prep.
Patricia is a friend of my mom’s. She was an excellent help when I was struggling in some physics courses. She is an excellent tutor and extremely knowledgeable in this field of study. With her help, I was able to turn course work averaging around a C to coursework averaging around an A. Her approach to explaining concepts in physics was matched to my learning style which I found extremely beneficial, which later became reflected in my course work. I greatly recommend Patricia as a tutor based on her knowledge, teaching approaches, adaptation to student needs, and patience with student learning.
I had Patricia as my high school physics teacher, and she was one of the most supportive and effective teachers I’ve had. What I appreciated most about her teaching style was how clearly she explained difficult concepts so that they made sense, and how patient she was when helping students understand problems step by step.
She also helped me through the preparations for my AP Physics exams, and her guidance made a huge difference in both my confidence and understanding of the material. Her teaching genuinely inspired my passion towards physics, and her passion in teaching the subject is shown greatly through her classes. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and encouraging tutor.View more recommendations
