About Nilmini
I am a PhD student with a BSc Special Degree in Chemistry and a Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Analytical Chemistry, along with five years of teaching experience. Through my academic and teaching journey, I have developed a strong understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of chemistry.
Having worked closely with students over the years, I understand the common challenges they face when trying to grasp complex chemical concepts. I know that chemistry can feel overwhelming when ideas are not explained clearly or logically. This understanding allows me to tailor my teaching approach to break down difficult topics into simple, structured, and easy-to-understand explanations.
My goal is to support students by building strong foundations, improving their confidence, and helping them approach chemistry with clarity rather than fear.

Hi! My name is Nilmini, and I’m deeply passionate about Chemistry, with a particular interest in Analytical Chemistry. I hold an BSc and PGD in Chemistry and am currently pursuing a PhD, which allows me to bring strong subject knowledge as well as research-based thinking into my teaching.
My one-hour lessons are carefully structured to maximise understanding and confidence:
5 minutes of concept refresh and revision
45 minutes of core learning, where I explain topics clearly using examples, problem-solving, and visuals
10 minutes of a mock test, helping students apply what they’ve learned and prepare for assessments and exams
I teach students at school level, including NCEA Levels 1, 2, and 3, and focus on helping them truly understand concepts rather than memorising answers. I use slides and modern online teaching tools to make lessons interactive, clear, and engaging, especially for online classes.
I understand that Chemistry can feel challenging, but with the right explanation and consistent practice, it becomes manageable - and even enjoyable. My goal is to build strong foundations, improve exam confidence, and help students see chemistry as something they can succeed in.
If you’re looking for a dedicated, patient tutor with strong academic expertise and a structured teaching approach, I’d love to support your learning journey
