About Dan
I am a research scientist with a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Bath, and science has always been both my profession and my passion. I have worked in research-focused roles in universities and industry, and I particularly enjoy sharing that knowledge in a way that makes challenging topics feel more manageable and less intimidating.
Alongside my research career, I have experience teaching and tutoring students at GCSE, A-level and university level, as well as volunteering in instructional roles at lifesaving clubs. I am friendly, patient and organised, and I aim to make lessons clear, engaging and confidence-building. I take a professional approach to tutoring and work with students and parents to ensure sessions are focused, effective and supportive.

I take a structured but flexible approach to tutoring, which is always tailored to the individual student. I place a strong emphasis on understanding underlying concepts rather than rote learning, using diagrams, step-by-step reasoning and real-world examples to make topics clearer and more engaging. Lessons typically last 60-90 minutes, which I find is a good balance between focus and depth, though longer sessions can be arranged if helpful.
I have a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Bath and have worked in research chemistry roles across both universities and industry. Alongside this, I have experience teaching at university level, providing 1-to-1 tutoring for GCSE and A-level students, and volunteering in instructional roles at lifesaving clubs.
My lessons are suitable for GCSE students (Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science) and A-level Chemistry students. I aim to create a relaxed, supportive environment that builds confidence as well as exam technique.
