About Aidan
I am a member of the University of Edinburgh's choir and NYCOS National Choir, while also having a Choral Scholarship at Church of the Sacred Heart and Old Saint Paul's Church. Involvement within these, along with past choirs such as the Fettes College Chapel Choir, has meant I am a strong singer and know how to get the best out of a singing lesson. Helping out with conducting across some of these choirs has given me experience of teaching Music, and alongside teaching Mathematics to primary schools, I can use these skills of being organised and having good communication to help make my lessons engaging, as I have done already while teaching at Morningside School of Music. I also have an ARSM Diploma and an ATCL Associate's Degree from ABRSM and Trinity College London, meaning I play up to Undergraduate standard, which combined with being a Graduate in Mathematics and Music means I have a solid Musical background. I also have an Enhanced DBS.

Having had 9 years of singing within Chapel, University and Scottish Choirs, I have been able to cover a wide range of repertoire and techniques on how to improve my singing style. During both school and university, Singing within choirs was my biggest extra-curricular, and I aim to teach lessons in a way that can encourage budding singers to grow in their confidence and ability. Singing is a social and enjoyable experience, and this is the key thing in lessons that students choose to learn songs and techniques they are keen to cover and feel engaged when improving their singing. Lessons can be either 30 minutes or 1 hour depending on preference, and are catered to anyone who is keen in Singing, varying from adults wanting to learn better techniques for singing, children wanting to learn for fun and students wanting to prepare for their graded exams.

Aidan is a friendly, confident, and knowledgeable tutor in maths, piano and singing. He is very well-qualified.
Aidan is very passionate about his work, and was always a great person to work with at university. We studied together, and throughout the time that I've known him he's helped me understand things I got stuck on countless times.
I have been able to work with Aidan both as a peer in Mathematics at University and as colleagues in the Edinburgh University Maths Outreach Team. Being in several of the same classes at University Aidan has been a valuable part of the group, talking through new ideas, spending time working through hard problems, and having the satisfaction of coming to a correct answer.
As part of the Maths Outreach Team at Edinburgh University I have worked with him on several projects such as the Edinburgh Science Festival, Maths Circles, and an event for the general public showcasing some geometric ideas. All of these events involve communicating mathematics to children of all ages (and in many cases their parents) which Aidan was excellent at. A core idea of the Maths Outreach Team (in particular, Maths Circles) is that we are not only interested in participants getting the correct answer but we want the children to be able to reason and tell us why their answer is correct. As such, not only is Aidan able to communicate mathematical ideas to a range of age groups, he is able to do it in a way that allows students to develop their understanding and reasoning and so better understand maths.
Aidan is a solid member of the mathematical community at the University of Edinburgh. As a volunteer at the Maths Outreach Team, he has led Math Circles for groups of up to 30 young students doing maths puzzles, and has even contributed his time to help out with the Maths Week Scotland, which was a tremendous success. Furthermore, his past experience tutoring and his patient and attentive engagement with the university course on mathematics in the Scottish secondary education system, aptly qualified him for future work tutoring maths students.
