My approach to teaching is to firstly get to know my student’s voice type and music preferences, and build upon the foundation to strengthen and expand the vocal range. My aim would be to provide my student with experience in the different styles of singing they are interested in, and create a portfolio of songs they enjoy singing which they could use in concerts, auditions, or just for their own singing pleasure. I would also be available to work with new students for a few lessons before exams in order to polish their performances.
I am a Classics student at the University of Edinburgh, but my passion lies in singing. I have Grades 1-8 ABRSM singing and a distinction in the ARSM singing diploma. I am also part of the Edinburgh University Chamber Choir, Savoy Opera and Music Society, and have lots of experience in the choral world, being an ex-chorister at Lincoln Cathedral, and a member of the Rodolphus Choir. I was awarded Worksop Rotary ‘Most Promising Vocalist’ award in 2018, and have performed with many high profile companies, such as Voces 8, Apollo Five, and Opera North.
*Plumber's Assistant (May-June 2016) - I assisted the head plumber with bathroom installations, including dismantling and reinstalling pipes, removing a shower structure, and installing heating systems. I was also responsible for communicating with customers, which I handled professionally and politely.
*Professional Singer (2017-cont.) - I have worked as a for-hire singer at weddings, funerals, parties, concerts and church services. This means I have experience working in busy environments, and am well versed in the importance of communication with customers.
*University of Edinburgh MA in Ancient History and Archaeology (2019-cont.)
*Worksop College Alevels - ABB. Within school I was part of multiple extra-curriculars, including the debating society and the mountaineering society. I also held multiple positions of responsibility such as Prefect, Head of Choir, and Deputy Head of Derry House.
*Skegness Grammar School GCSEs - 4xA*, 3xA, 4XB. Within this period of school I was awarded the Skegness Grammar School Award for the highest grade in Business Studies, and was the runner-up in the David Ross Education Trust’s Music Festival.
As a part of multiple debating societies, I have learnt how to be persuasive, polite and authoritative. I can engage my audience for long periods of time, and my work with disabled children through charity means I have been able to navigate potentially difficult situations, and resolve them through calm communication and patience. My expensive experience in the arts, including theatre, singing and dance means that I am very perceptive of the needs of other people, and I am very adept at conforming to standards. I am a lively and engaging person with much to offer in terms of dedication and charisma.
I am Secretary for the Edinburgh University Chamber Choir for the years 2021-2022, which requires strong organisation skills, communication skills, and the ability to keep track of the progress of 30 people within the choir. I was previously Librarian of the same society, which also tested and improved my organisation skills, especially concerning the collection and distribution of music.
I have been awarded Fundraising Manager of the Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group for the years 2021-2022. This means I have been responsible for organising large events, and thinking of ways to both promote and raise money for the society. I am a dedicated member of this committee, and this has been reflected in the money raised for this society under my leadership.
