About Sam
Hi! I’m Sam and I am now in my second year of studying Music at York. I also hold an A Level in Music.
I play regularly in a variety of situations: opera orchestras to rock ‘n’ roll gigs, musical theatre pits and jazz bands. This range of experience has given me a strong understanding across various styles of music, and the ability to adapt to different needs.
I have learnt from some of the country's best woodwind players, including top West End musicians.
Teaching brings me immense satisfaction, as I love seeing others experience the joy of music.

I believe it’s never too late to start playing a musical instrument, and that learning should always be enjoyable as well as rewarding. I adapt my teaching to suit each student's goals. Lessons are usually weekly, and last either 30 minutes or an hour. Of course, I can negotiate this. I teach in one of the public spaces at the University of York campus but I am happy to teach at the student’s home. I have experience teaching a range of ages and abilities, from complete beginners to more advanced players.

Sam is a tutor who is patient and gives me tips on how to improve my saxophone skills, such as playing scales and doing some exercises. I would fully recommend him as your tutor!
lovely fella, very friendly and flexible with scheduling as well as your particular needs. helped me regain some passion and my skills after being on a years long hiatus with the alto sax
Sam is currently teaching me at 70 years of age to fulfill a lifelong dream of being able to master the saxophone. I am now making the right noises, and he has even taught me to read music and play my first tune. How fantastic is that after only 6 lessons? Great job, Sam, and I am so pleased. See you soon.
