About Derrian
I started singing lessons at the age of 17 in Durban, South Africa where I was born and passed Grade 8 ABRSM (in 2018 I passed my ARSM). I made many solo appearances with professional choirs, singing Oratorios and Sacred works. I then moved to Johannesburg and studied the Italian Bel Canto technique with Miss Dawn Brown, studying Opera for the last 16 years before moving to the United Kingdom. I was also employed by two Opera Companies whilst in South Africa graduating from the chorus to solo roles. I also taught at a Public School teaching students who were taking Music as a major subject with singing as their first instrument. I trained them for the South African Education Department Exams up to the equivalent of Grade 8 ABRSM. I also entered them for ABRSM/Trinity College exams and for local Festivals. Since moving to the United Kingdom I have taught for the Aylesbury Music Services and I still teach from home and continue to make regular concert appearances. Aylesbury for ABRSM/Tri

My lessons are 45 Mins to 1 Hour for adults and 30 Mins to 45 Mins for children (depending on their age and ability). I studied privately from the age of 17 years, in South Africa where I was born and passed ABRSM Grade 8 (Final) exam at that time and now I have my ARSM. I performed professionally with two Opera Companies in South Africa and still continue to make regular concert appearances. I am a very passionate and patient teacher and I work at a pace that suits the individual abilities of the students, explaining the reasons in depth of the technique that I teach including the mechanics of the breathing which is required to sustain the vocal line whilst singing. I also try to match the abilities and voice type to the kind of repertoire they sing, being very aware of the fragility of the voice. I also enter my students for exams e.g. ABRSM or Trinity College, should they feel they would like to set themselves a goal but that is not a necessity.
