About Nyasha

I started learning the violin aged 9 and have enjoyed playing ever since. I completed my grade 7 ABRSM exam aged 18. Since then I have played in church, folk and ceilidh bands (including Oxford University Ceilidh Band) and especially enjoy improvising and 'jamming'. I love to share this love of music with my students, taking the fear out of music lessons by helping you develop your innate musicality. I offer a holistic approach that includes learning to sightread and sightsing using sol-fa, and developing relaxed foundational posture and techniques for bowing and fingering. I am fully DBS checked and offer lessons in my home in central Wokingham, within walking distance from the train station and bus stops.

This week I am enjoying listening to: The Red Bee Set performed by brother/sister duo Painted Sky, a wonderful modern folk fiddle piece! Notice the alternative Irish fiddle bow hold, as opposed to a classical bow hold...

I offer younger students or adult beginners a fun and intuitive introduction to the violin, focusing on correct posture and technique alongside developing musicality and aural awareness. I particularly enjoy playing folk violin in my free time and enjoy teaching students to improvise and develop their own musicality, as well as giving them a firm grounding in scales, arpeggios and sightreading. I offer a 10% discount on ten lessons paid in advance, and a 5% discount on five pre-paid lessons.
