About Murdo
I am an experienced teacher of Latin and Ancient History, with a wealth of experience and strong student testimonials.
I hold a First Class Latin degree from the University of Glasgow and a Masters and PhD in Classics from the University of Edinburgh, where I have taught my subjects for four years, and twice been nominated by my students for the University's Tutor of the Year award.
I am passionate about improving access to classical education, and create teaching environments which are enthusiastic, engaging, and focused on the practical skills needed to succeed in the (sometimes daunting!) work of studying the ancient world and its languages.

I run discussion-led sessions which are guided by your specific concerns, whether they be grammar and syntax, translation and composition skills, or textual analysis. I often operate my classes like a skills lab, and am always happy to spend an hour going over one grammar point if that's what you need!
I have taught Latin from a number of different popular resources, and am happy to work in tandem with whichever textbook students are using in other classes.
Lessons can range from 45-90 minutes depending on your preferences and availability.
I have taught Latin and ancient history from beginners' level onwards, and am happy to work with new starters with the subject(s) or to consolidate existing knowledge with a view to exam prep etc. I have experience teaching students of all ages, from 9 years plus - in addition to school pupils and students, I would love to hear from adult learners picking Latin back up in their own time!
