About Erik
Patience and understanding is key to a successful learning environment, and I proudly offer both. However, humility is the glue that keeps those together, as it is necessary as an educator to remember that our students do not yet know or understand the content we are teaching, and we, too, were those students at one time. As such, efficiency is important to my teaching style. While there is plenty of space for hypotheses and discussions after the fact, it's important to me that I lead you to an understanding of the material efficiently to prevent confusion and ensure proficiency.
I have been teaching since 2017, and I've taught a total of eight different English, composition, and literature courses during that time. I also have experience tutoring high school students for the SAT and ACT reading and writing sections.

I use a mix of the major teaching methods, but my students' understanding of the material is my goal. While lecture/lesson content is necessary to establish a foundation for our discussions, discussion and student inquiry is a vital part of my classroom. As I often say to my, "It's okay if you didn't understand it because we're going to talk about it."
The majority of my teaching experience is in the college classroom, but I've also worked with younger students, primarily ages ten to fourteen.
My dedication to a student's understanding of the material is one of my great strengths. I've been complimented by students many times for helping them to understand a concept clearly, whether it be in grammar, composition, or literature.
