About Gabbie
Gabbie Wong, an oboist born and raised in Hong Kong, is an accomplished orchestral performer, chamber musician, and educator currently residing in the Phoenix area. She is a doctoral student and teaching assistant at Arizona State University, where she studies with Martin Schuring. Gabbie holds a Master of Music degree from ASU and earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Oboe Performance summa cum laude from the University of North Florida under the tutelage of Xiaodi Liu. She has also been part of Atlantic Music Festival and Domaine Forget. A passionate advocate for new music and an enthusiastic chamber musician, Gabbie has performed a diverse range of modern chamber repertoire across the United States. She and her ensemble, the Aenea Reed Quintet, were awarded first place at the North American Saxophone Alliance’s inaugural FLEX Competition, and was a semifinalist in the 11th Coltman Chamber Music Competition. Along with colleagues from ASU, Gabbie premiered Existence of Dark Matter by Prin Varojtecha for double reed quintet at the 2024 International Double Reed Society (IDRS) conference. With Trio Lily (oboe, bassoon, piano), she gave a recital that featured works by Madeleine Dring and Valerie Coleman at the 2025 IDRS Conference.

I have been an Oboe Teaching Assistant at Arizona State University for three years. On top of teaching students at college level, my beginner students range from middle school to adult. In our lessons, we will work on fundamentals, playing your favorite tunes, and learn so much more about music! You might have heard people saying that the oboe is one of the hardest instruments to learn, but all my students have found that playing the oboe is actually not as hard as they think!

Perfect! Gabbie is a wonderful teacher. She is patient, supportive, and very helpful. I’m so happy that my daughter enjoys learning the oboe with her.
