About Ivanka
Hi, I'm Ivanka! I am fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English, and I am currently pursuing a master's degree in Political Analytics at Columbia University. I earned my bachelor's degree at Stony Brook University, where I also worked as a teaching assistant, leading discussions, supporting virtual sessions, and providing student feedback.
My professional experience includes translating and interpreting for Mandarin- and Cantonese-speaking clients in legal settings. That work taught me the value of clear explanations, careful listening, and helping people feel comfortable asking questions. I bring that same patient, practical approach to language learning and look forward to helping you build confidence in Chinese.

My Mandarin and Cantonese lessons focus on helping you communicate with confidence in everyday situations. We can work on pronunciation, useful vocabulary, listening, and natural conversation, with explanations in English when helpful. A typical lesson starts with a short review, introduces a practical topic, and gives you time to practice through guided conversation and feedback.
I adapt the pace and activities to your goals, whether you are starting from the basics or strengthening your speaking skills. My background includes university teaching assistance and professional Mandarin and Cantonese translation, which I bring to clear explanations and practical examples.
Lessons are available online or in person at your location within New York City only. My rate is $40 per hour. For in-person lessons, students must also cover my transportation costs, with the amount agreed before booking.
