About Oliver
Oliver Taylor is a lifelong musician and multi-instrumentalist as well as career changer. Having worked in finance for the first 7 years of my career (and playing in bands at a high level as a sideline) he turned pro at 29 and has been teaching online freelance for some years. Singing and guitar are my favourite instruments. I also have experience knowing what it is like to have your confidence knocked and having to relearn an instrument and return to yourself. In terms of formal qualifications I achieved grade 8 with distinction on the clarinet at age 16 and am self-taught on all other instruments. I have studied Flamenco Guitar in Granada for some three months in 2024 in order to learn what is like to be a student. Other than this my focus is on performance and I have played around fires all over the world.

Oliver has a unique approach to lessons whilst being driven by the needs of the student. Initially we get the student to pick some songs that they want to learn, this is for students of all abilities. We then work on a version of these songs that is playable for the student and then use this as the gateway to explore technique and musicality. This makes for fun engaging lessons where students can achieve their desired results quickly before embarking on a musical journey to wherever they desire! For more advanced students this can move on to music theory and exercises however my unique style is to focus on performance and playing beautifully at all levels. There is no reason why a beginner cannot deliver a wonderful stylistic performance! and this is one of the things I specialise in. I can also help students prepare for auditions or other very specific goals.
