About Philippa
I am currently a trainee Primary School teacher, having done 10 years working in London and then sailing around the world for the year, I now focus on empowering and helping children achieve their full potential. I am a lively teacher, who likes to teach through examples and showing children. I don't like putting up loads of slides, expecting children to listen and engage, I want them to physically practise what I am trying to teach them. Whether this is fronted adverbials or chronological timelines. I think repetition is really important, so I will also go over what has been previously learnt and ask them at random times of the day answers to things like spellings and telling the time!
I believe it to be extremely important to look at each child as an individual and ask myself what is there need and how can I get the best out of them. For some it may be quiet coaxing, with repetition, with some it may be a more physical practise of the subject. I look at abilities and make sure that a less able child has the resources to hit their goal, I look at the more able child and make sure that they are being pushed and tested.
Overall, although new to education, I think every day is a learning day - throughout your life you should be asking questions and enquiring into life around you. To instil this at a young age, while teaching the lessons that are needed, I hope will set a child up for the rest of their lives!
