About Alex
Worked for TestTeach a private tutoring firm for almost a year, participated in maths help groups in year 12 to help younger students and privately tutored young children to help them pass the 11+ exams.
As you can see I have a strong tutoring background with regards to academics.
I have also worked with younger children on several different occasions during my younger years which has given me valuable experience concerning appropriate conduct towards younger students and how to communicate with them effectively to convey the correct message across.
In year 12, I organised and ran our high school badminton club where I was required to plan club sessions but also take responsibility for all the attending children. I was responsible for their well-being but also responsible for their enjoyment. Planning fun yet education sessions proved challenging but was overcome through two way communication between myself, the organiser, and the students.
Having previously provided private tutoring services for young students looking to pass the 11+ entrance exams to get into the local grammar school of their choice has also given me a lot of experience. It has enabled me the ability to develop a strong bond with my students and understand their individual needs in an academic sense. I found this particularly enjoyable because it also meant developing a bond with my students. The whole experience revealed to me how much I enjoy working with young students.

With such limited time and each hour costing money, my style is to remain concise and to focus on areas of weakness. It would be a waste of time and money to tutor my students in areas they are strong in. I like to evaluate my students early on to highlight subject areas and content that they may be struggling with. Then with that information in mind, explain the theory of the content with several examples followed by step by step processes to completing the question successfully. Providing homework is essential as it helps discern whether or not the student has fully understood what they have been taught and can give vital insight to whether or not they require more attention on a certain subject or we can continue to another one.
