About Sai
Hi! My name is Sayuni, but I go by Sai.
I’m a specialized academic tutor with 10 years of experience helping students build confidence in advanced STEM, writing, test prep, and college-level coursework. I'm a CS PhD student at Johns Hopkuns university, but I have a B.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering. I work well with students who are taking rigorous classes, preparing for competitive college applications, or trying to close gaps before a course becomes overwhelming.
I tutor high school, college, and advanced middle school students in subjects like calculus, statistics, physics, chemistry, biology, writing, reading analysis, ACT/SAT prep, and college application essays. I also love helping students who are bright but frustrated, anxious, disorganized, bored in class, or stuck because their teacher’s explanation just is not clicking.
My lessons are focused, thoughtful, and never generic. I do not believe in wasting time with busy work! I figure out exactly where a student is getting stuck, explain the material clearly, and give them strategies they can actually use on tests, assignments, and essays.
I also bring a creative side to tutoring. I’m a published writer and have won statewide and international creative writing competitions, so essay coaching is one of my favorite things to do. Whether we are working through physics problems or shaping a college application essay, my goal is always the same: make the work feel manageable, meaningful, and less intimidating.
Outside of tutoring, I love reading and writing. My favorite book is Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer, and I will happily talk books, essays, or AP English anytime. :-)

I firmly believe that tutoring should not be 1. a bore and 2. a chore (ie, no busy work). I can tutor kids, high schoolers, and college students in:
-any STEM subject
-ACT/SAT + College Prep
-STEM courses (Calculus 1-3, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Physics, Statistics, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, etc.)
-Essay prep for any level
-any type of writing/reading comprehension/literary analysis at any level
For our sessions, I'll go over the materials you provide me ahead of time and formulate a plan to tackle whatever is challenging for you. If it's a problem set, we'll methodically work through the hard parts and I'll help you understand the more challenging parts. If you simply need help with lecture material, we can have a content-heavy session where I'll teach you the topics in simpler terms and help you with practice problems to check your progress.
