My average lesson starts off with checking if they have any questions about the previous session and if they would like more time covering it. If they are happy to move on we would move on to going over what they are studying in class going over examples and running through questions.
Closer to exam time I use a mixture of past papers and other exam level material to create mock exams that they will not have encountered before that they are able to complete between lessons and cover the questions that they have issues with during the next lesson.
I always want to make sure that the student is put first and that all their needs are met. If they already are aware of a specific learning environment that they respond well to I will do my best to foster this.
I am a third-year Computer Science student studying at Heriot-Watt University. I have been tutoring informally since I sat my own exams in 2017, always giving any friends that were struggling a second perspective on any material that they were unsure of.
Since a young age, I have had an affinity towards maths and computers often using my spare time to make games, websites and other projects and I love to share my passion with others.
As a Computer Science student, I have learned exceptionally transferable skills including; a keen analytical eye, strong teamworking, time management and problem-solving abilities. All of these I will be able to use when tutoring student.
I am aware that no two students are ever the same and that is why part of the first lessons is focused on finding out what style of learning that the student will respond best to and what parts of the syllabus they need reinforced.
