About Jeniffer

Hello! My name is Jeniffer, and I'm so happy to have the opportunity to share a little of my musical journey with you.

I have been playing violin for 13 years, and even after all these years, I still remember what it felt like to first pick up the instrument. I remember being both excited and nervous, not knowing quite what to expect or how far music would eventually take me. That's something I always want to keep in mind when teaching. I know that behind every first note is a little bit of courage, curiosity, and perhaps some uncertainty. I want my students to feel that they don't have to be perfect from the beginning. There is so much beauty in learning something new, including the little mistakes, the small improvements, and the moments when something that once seemed impossible finally begins to come together.

Throughout my musical journey, I attended an arts-focused high school where I majored in violin, performed as a soloist with orchestras, and had the opportunity to serve as Concertmaster. Today, I'm continuing to explore my love for music at university, where I'm taking courses in music therapy and learning more about the ways music can bring comfort, connection, and healing to others. Outside of school, I am a volunteer performing at hospitals and retirement homes around Hamilton. These experiences have reminded me that music doesn't always need an audience or a stage to mean something. Sometimes, a simple melody can brighten someone's day or make them feel a little less alone.

I think that's one of the things I love most about music: it gives us a way to express feelings that words sometimes cannot. After 13 years, I still find something special in being able to share a melody with someone else, and I hope to pass some of that feeling on to my students.

Whether you're holding a violin for the very first time, returning to it after a few years, or hoping to take your playing to the next level, I'd love to be part of your journey. I'll do my best to make each lesson a space where you feel encouraged to try, comfortable enough to make mistakes, and proud of every bit of progress you make, no matter how small.

After all, everyone starts somewhere. I hope that one day, when you look back on your own musical journey, you'll remember not only the things you learned, but also the joy you found along the way.

I can't wait to meet you and make music together!

My teaching approach focuses on building a strong musical foundation while helping each student develop confidence, creativity, and a genuine appreciation for music. Having played violin for 13 years and studied through the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) curriculum up to the ARCT level, I bring extensive musical training and practical performance experience to my lessons. I also attended an arts-focused high school majoring in violin, where I had opportunities to perform as an orchestral soloist and serve as Concertmaster.

I believe every student learns differently, so I tailor my teaching methods to their individual goals, experience, and learning pace. Lessons incorporate proper posture, bow technique, intonation, sight-reading, rhythm, music theory, and musical expression. I emphasize developing good technique from the beginning while making sure students understand not only how to play a piece, but also how to interpret it and bring it to life.

A typical lesson begins with warm-up exercises and scales to develop technique and intonation, followed by focused practice on études and repertoire. We then work through challenging passages, rhythm, phrasing, and musical expression, with time dedicated to reviewing progress and setting achievable goals for independent practice.

What sets me apart is my experience beyond individual practice. Having performed in orchestras, taken on leadership roles as Concertmaster, and performed as a soloist, I understand the discipline, preparation, and musical awareness involved in becoming a well-rounded violinist. I hope to share these experiences with my students and help them grow both technically and artistically.

My lessons are suitable for beginners discovering the violin, intermediate students looking to strengthen their technique, and more advanced students preparing for performances, auditions, or examinations. Whether you are picking up the violin for the first time or hoping to refine your existing skills, I aim to create a supportive and encouraging environment where you can develop your abilities and enjoy the process of making music.
