About FrancisJohn
FrancisJohn Chan was trained as a biologist (BSc Biological Science, HKUST) and is now switching his inquiry into life to an artistic perspective, especially contemporary dance. He is currently studying MA Contemporary Dance at London Contemporary Dance School.
FrancisJohn’s science education and career background has given him perspectives in artistic processes. He is recently investigating the physio-psychological state of spectators from philosophical, psychological and neuroscience perspectives, in which understand how a performance is able to generate different human experiences.
FrancisJohn has always been creating, directing and performing. He has been a movement director of both theatre and TV commercial production. In 2018 spring, he has directed an ao stage comedy of 7 actors, “Sillyionaire”, with reception of two full-house nights. His most notable work is titled "RLDU 右左下上", a full-length contemporary dance work of 9 dancers and 3 actors, an autobiographic work documenting Ghost and his emotional experience of deciding to switch field from science to art.

I have been providing dance and movements classes to all range of movers, from actors and dancers, to beginners and enthusiasts.
We first understand which level and what kind of movers we are, we then construct lessons according to our needs. For example, actors would receive training in physical theatre and body expressions, 9-5 office workers would get instructions to mobilise their bodies and release certain tension in their body, athletes would like to work on their stamina and agility.
By physical and mental work, we gradually learn about the wisdom in our body and reconnect with our body. As I was trained in biology, my lessons will all be backed with scientific knowledge and understanding, in order to provide safe, efficient and helpful environment to all movers.
