About Valerija
I grew up in Latvia, speaking Russian from an early age, and later moved to England. Being fluent in both languages gives me a strong understanding of the challenges English speakers face when learning Russian. I’ve always enjoyed helping others learn and gain confidence in new skills. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a student have that “click” moment when a concept finally makes sense. I’ve mentored students of different ages before — supporting GCSE students in college, and younger students during university — which has given me experience adapting lessons to suit each learner. My aim is to make learning Russian enjoyable, practical, and interactive, helping students improve their speaking and listening skills while building confidence along the way.

I focus on practical, interactive learning, helping students build confidence in speaking and understanding Russian. Lessons are tailored to each student’s pace and learning style, using real-life conversation, listening exercises, and step-by-step explanations. I encourage students to practise speaking from the very first lesson, making the learning experience engaging and effective. Each lesson is 60 minutes long and delivered online. I am fluent in Russian and have experience explaining concepts to English speakers in a clear and understandable way. I’ve also tutored younger students in other subjects, giving me experience adapting lessons to different ages and learning needs. These lessons are suitable for beginners and intermediate learners of all ages who want to improve their Russian speaking and listening skills.
