I work with children, pre-schoolers and primary school kids at the moment. In the sessions the children are given the opportunity to work individually and collectively, creating something delicious to eat. They are provided with a recipe to follow which I guide them through at a gentle pace. They are encouraged to do as much as they are able to themselves, whether it be selecting ingredients, whisking, weighing or mixing and are provided with clear and concise instructions; this includes teaching them about health and safety in the kitchen, food hygiene and preparation and clearing up skills.
I have run after school cookery club lessons in Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire primary schools. I have held classes with Brownies (I am also a Brownie parent helper) and run sessions with children privately at my home. My private smaller sessions are for up to six children e.g for birthday parties for a more personal experience and the larger groups are up to 20 children with a helper involved.
I have an academic background in Social Anthropology. A Masters degree in Anthropology & Cultural Politics from Goldsmiths University, London and currently work in the kitchen of a primary school in Hertfordshire. I am DBS approved and have Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate and had safeguarding of children training. I have worked as an Anthropologist studying the migration patterns of child labourers in the state of Karnataka, India.
