I have a passion for encouraging creativity on the cello, built on a strong technical foundation. As a keen improviser and session cellist working across all genres from classical and baroque through to jazz, rock and pop, I love to incorporate this knowledge and experience into my cello teaching. I have taught many students from beginners through to advanced.
I also teach music theory lessons, following either the Rockschool syllabus or the ABRSM syllabus, with a fun yet focussed approach.
I am a professional freelance cellist with a first class honours degree from the Royal Northern College of Music and over 10 years of teaching experience. I have taught both groups and individuals of all ages and abilities, with a flexible approach to suit all!

I feel like I've really progressed with Polly in just a few lessons. She's given me loads of handy tips to help me make a better sound on my cello.
We've done all of our lessons over Zoom, and everything has worked really well so far. I'm really happy that I have been able to gain some of her really great insights, even though we live in different cities!
She has an extensive knowledge of all types of techniques for every part of playing - from helping me improve my bow hold, to vibrato, changing positions, tuning, plucking... basically helping you understand how to move every part of your body to make things easier/a better sound.
She makes the lessons really bespoke to what you need/want to improve on. We're even going to work on some folky techniques, which I'm looking forward to.
I would 100% recommend lessons with Polly, my playing has come on leaps and bounds already - and she makes the lessons really fun!
