As a tutor, my goal is to create an engaging and supportive learning environment where students feel confident tackling challenging concepts. My teaching approach is based on: Conceptual Understanding First – I ensure students grasp fundamental principles before moving on to problem-solving. I break down complex topics into simpler steps, using real-life examples to make concepts relatable. Active Learning – I encourage students to participate by solving problems, asking questions, and explaining their reasoning. This helps reinforce their understanding. Tailored Lessons – Every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching style based on their strengths and weaknesses, identifying areas that need more focus. Exam-Focused Strategies – I provide guidance on exam techniques, time management, and how to approach different types of questions effectively. Use of Visual Aids and Resources – Where possible, I use diagrams, graphs, and online tools to illustrate key ideas, especially for maths and physics. Lesson Structure and Length My lessons typically last between one to two hours, depending on the student’s needs and attention span. A typical session includes: Brief recap of the previous lesson to reinforce learning. Explanation of new concepts, with step-by-step examples. Practice problems and discussion, where students attempt questions with my guidance. Summary and Q&A session to clarify doubts. Homework or extra practice recommendations, if needed. Qualifications and Experience I studied Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in high school, achieving excellent results. Currently, I am pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University, which has strengthened my problem-solving and analytical skills. While I am new to formal tutoring, I have experience helping peers and younger students understand difficult topics, particularly in maths and science. Who the Lessons Are For I offer tutoring for secondary school students (ages 12-18), covering: National 5 and Higher Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. General secondary school support for students looking to improve their understanding and confidence in these subjects. I am passionate about helping students succeed and develop a strong foundation in STEM subjects.
