About Deborah
I love English teaching and young people -With over 22 years teaching under my belt, a good English degree from a prestigious British university and a Secondary English teaching qualification, I believe I offer an excellent service. - About Us I am an expert tutor and a mother of four (now at university) with a track record of success and over 20 years of examining and teaching. I have a series of references from past and current students of all levels to verify this. I am currently a practising teacher (part time) in an independent school where I have been for 22 years. In my teaching career, I have increased results at A level from D to A and at GCSE I have a track record of getting very underperforming students through with a pass at least. Many of my GCSE students go on to achieve A or B from significantly lower predictions. I have solid experience with SEN especially Dyslexia and Aspergers. I believe in making tutoring fun and a rewarding experience. We focus on reading and extrapolate the other skills from there. Without a reading habit, it is very difficult to develop the attendant skills of writing/comprehension and speaking articulately. I will, if at all possible, let the pupils guide me in his or her interests and/or we will supplement what they are doing at school. Home schooling: I am happy to home school if this is required - one to one tuition in this situation reaps enormous benefits. If I home school, I can offer special rates of £35 an hour.

- Classes I teach English Language and Literature at GCSE (AQA/Edexcel/OCR) and up to A level (Cambridge/AQA). I also examine English for a national exam board at both GCSE and A Level. I have been in charge of an A level paper and I am currently involved with A Level exam coursework moderation. English is the key to success in all subjects at all levels and it is vital to develop these comprehension and language skills at as early an age as possible. So I tutor from primary upwards to inculcate the necessary habits and approach in children. This early work on the foundations can guarantee success at GCSE and A Level - Ages and Levels Covered I am happy to consider classes and one to one for adults (university level English) and children. I also offer Skype lessons. I do mainly focus on GCSE and A level though. I tutor in my own home or more frequently now via Skype. Young people are comfortable with this method of learning and it does make the sessions more flexible. Teaching young people with Aspergers is also a speciality of mine. Perfect! After 4 weekly sessions, my daughter has learnt so many new techniques to boost her English vocabulary and grammar. She is becoming increasingly more confident. Deborah is very attentive and is focusing on the gaps where she needs support the most. Overall very pleased in how the sessions are going.
