About Vickie
I am a very dedicated teacher who believes that teaching is not just a career, but a lifestyle - which means that I live by what I teach and teach what I live - genuinely. I realise that that requires a great deal of responsibility because that warrants me to set the example in everything I teach. I have to ensure that I have the right information and tools with which I can help students to become independent learners and critical leaders of tomorrow.
I like to make my lessons fun and accessible for all students and give my students a voice in all of my lessons – so if you like to talk, discuss and make presentations, you will feel at home in my class. I also like to use cultural stories and information to help all students feel included in my classes.
I have taught in countries such as Jamaica, Qatar and the UK in various capacities - in the SEN department of a secondary school, delivering intervention Mathematics and Literacy programmes to students who were unable to access the curriculum. I even developed my own reading intervention programme for students who needed the extra help. I am always willing to put my students first and ensure they get the right tools in order to reach their full capacity and beyond.

I am a dedicated and passionate teacher with more than 10 years’ experience working in various schools as a cover- teacher and supply teacher, as well as a general classroom primary school practitioner both in the UK and abroad. I hold a bachelor’s degree and a diploma in Primary Education, as well as a TEFL and a CELTA certificate.
It is my job as a dedicated teacher, to make my students’ education fun, very effective, and to encourage them to develop their knowledge extensively. I use a wide range of strategies to help, support, build and develop their level of understanding in my 30/40 minutes lesson. This includes warm-up tasks and activities to trigger their thoughts on the topic I want to address in a given lesson. This helps me to explore my students' pre-existing knowledge about the topic and to adapt my lesson if necessary.
I ask my students open-ended, higher order questions and use various activities which are student- lead, to help students make prediction about the lesson before explaining the topic clearly and in detail. I use these strategies to give students the opportunity to learn to think things out for themselves.
My concrete examples and models throughout my lessons help students to gain a deeper understanding of the concept, and I use these to encourage them to rethink, adapt or apply them in other contexts. Throughout my lessons I use ongoing formative assessments, mini-plenaries and AFL strategies to check on each student's understanding while giving each student time and opportunity to assess their own understanding. Throughout my lessons, I refer my students back to the learning objective and success criteria. I use this form of formative assessment to keep students on track, to focus their thinking skills and to help them make the necessary self- assessment to see where they are going, where they are at present and what they now need to do to get them to where they need to be at the end of the lesson. I am aware of students’ wellbeing and their welfare, and, to cater for their short attention span, I incorporate brain gym in the form of fun and exciting exercises within each lesson. I allow students to work at their own pace, giving the slower ones extra time to complete and giving the faster ones extension activities to move them on.
I give everyone an opportunity to apply their acquired knowledge and interpretation in practice through differentiated activities. This helps me to know where there are still gaps in their learning, and how I can use the outcome to inform my next lesson.
At the end of my lessons I give each student the opportunity to show what skill and knowledge they have acquired so far and how they can extend the new skill in a different concept. I also give them the opportunity to complete a self- assessment, peer assessment or class assessment at the end of each lesson. This also include my valuable feedback and targets that will help students to evaluate their own learning and know what to do to achieve.
